A2 · SUPPLEMENTARY GRAMMAR PRACTICE
Obwohl and trotzdem word order
Obwohl introduces a subordinate clause and sends the conjugated verb to the end. Trotzdem can introduce a main clause, taking first position with the conjugated verb next. Both can express an unexpected contrast. If an obwohl clause comes first, the main clause begins with its finite verb.
